Unfortunately, there is no direct connection from Geneva to Zermatt. You always have to change trains at least once in Visp. Nevertheless, traveling by train is the best option from our point of view.The SBB services are extremely reliable and punctual, and you can enjoy the scenery during the comfortable journey.

To travel by train from Geneva to Zermatt, you will have to take the following trains: 

  • Firstly, take the train from Geneva to Visp. This train runs regularly and takes around 2 hours and 10minutes. 
  • In Visp, you will then take another train to Zermatt. This train also runs regularly and takes around 1 hour and 10 minutes.

If you arrive at Geneva airport, traveling by train is just as easy. As the intercity connection to Visp starts at Geneva airport before continuing 8 minutes later via Geneva main station.

You’ll need to park in the nearby village of Täsch and take a shuttle train to Zermatt. Parking in Tasch costs around CHF 16.- for 24 hours and the return shuttle train tickets costs about CHF 17.- for a standard adult fare. In the village itself are electric taxi and bus services available.

The trip from Zurich to Täsch by car typically takes around 2h and 45min. Then you have to factor in the time for parking, waiting for a shuttle train (which runs regularly every 20 minutes) and the 10-minute ride to the train station in Zermatt.
