Leave Your Car in Lauterbrunnen to Visit Mürren and Wengen

Wengen and Mürren are two of the most exquisite villages close to Lauterbrunnen, but they are both car-free. It means that you have to leave your car in Lauterbrunnen and reach the villages by the public transportation system.

Wengen can be reached by train only. You can then explore the village by train, cableway, or on foot. Before you head to Wengen, you can park your car in Lauterbrunnen and take the cogwheel train up to Wengen. It takes almost 15 minutes to reach Wengen.

When you are in Wengen, there are trains back to Lauterbrunnen and further up to the mountain to Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch. You can even take a train to reach Grindelwald from Kleine Scheidegg. 

Mürren is also a car-free village that can be reached by train and cableway only. You can then explore the village by train, cableway, or on foot. 

If you have parked your car in Lauterbrunnen, you can reach Mürren in two ways:

  1. Take the cableway to Grütschalp and then change to the narrow gauge train to Mürren BLM, the train station in the north of Mürren.
  2. From Lauterbrunnen, go to Stechelberg by bus and then take the cableway up to Mürren with a change in Gimmelwald. The cable car station called Mürren (Schilthornbahn) is in the south of Mürren.

Lauterbrunnen Car Park

Lauterbrunnen Car Park is a big, multi-story car park located in the village, adjacent to the railway station. It is at the entrance of the Lauterbrunnen village on the left-hand side. The parking is directly connected to the Lauterbrunnen railway station by lift. You can take the trains to Wengen at this railway station.

You are allowed to park your car at Lauterbrunnen Car Park for at least 5 days in winter and 3 days in summer, or at most 31 days during both winter and summer.

Lauterbrunnen Car Park is close to the center of the village. You can leave your car and go to the village on foot in just 5 minutes. Alternatively, public buses are available to travel between the two areas.

More Options to Park Your Car in Lauterbrunnen

It is highly recommended that you reserve a parking space in the Lauterbrunnen multi-story car park before you arrive at Lauterbrunnen to avoid finding fully-occupied parking lots. Despite that, if a parking reservation is not possible or the entire car park is occupied, there are other options too. 

You can take your car to the big protestant church in the village center where there is a parking space. If you cannot park your car there too, there is another parking space at the Schützenbach campsite back in the village.

Alternatively, you can use other parking options in Lauterbrunnen. Gütli 481 Garage offers as many as 1090 parking spaces, with prices varying from CHF 17 to CHF 151 for 1 day and 14 days, respectively. You can also extend this duration, and the price will be CHF 7 for any additional days.  

If you are traveling by your camper, there are parking spaces for your car in Lauterbrunnen. You can find campsites with spectacular views in Lauterbrunnen where you can park your motorhome and stay at night.
